Scary looking Cal Mac ferry to Islay!

Drying our towels in Islay!

The famous 'Round Church' (great name eh?!) in Bowmore, Islay. Built like this is the devil wouldn't have a corner to hide in!

Snazzy wee lighthouse on Islay.

Finally getting round to posting some more photos of the holiday!

The campsite in Machrihanish. Really gorgeous day but VERY windy!

They also have Wigwams that you can hire out - these look so cool!

Mum playing my Ukulele! :-)

Our really cool Campervan egg cups. I got mine (the orange one) from Kirsty and Doug and Gordon and Jenna donated the blue one! Brilliant!

Day 4 Campbeltown

Woke up this morning to glorious sunshine on Muasdale but still a howling gale. Packed up and headed for Campbeltown about 11am, did lots of shopping and had lunch in the Taj Mahal! Mum took me round where she used to live and go to school then we headed to our campsite in Machrihanish. It's really nice here with lovely ocean views and plenty of space, thought we'd see some suffers but none so far!

We seem to be the only campervan anything more than 5 years old- everything else is really modern. Lots of retired couples with dogs!

Been really lucky with the weather as we've not been rained on once!

Going out for a walk down to the beach just now!

Back to the mainland

Not much else to see on Islay so we headed for the ferry terminal in Port Askaig to get the boat back to the mainland. We were the first vehicle on the boat and parked right at the off ramp- result!

Sitting beside some interesting characters on the boat made for excellent people-watching during the 2 hour crossing.

I decided to go off as a foot passenger leaving mum to drive the campervan off. No big deal cause we were just at the ramp- right? WRONG! they docked the boat the other way and made all the cars reverse off or do 3 point turns to get off- not such a big deal unless ur in a massive van with no power steering! Mum did great and got it off the ferry but my heart was in my mouth!

Drove to Tarbet to get some petrol then headed to Muasdale campsite which is about a 40 min drive. Our pitch is literally 2 steps from the beach and 20 from the freezing Atlantic ocean! It's so windy right now the van is shaking! Mum is recounting a story from her childhood of being on a bus passing through Muasdale when a dog ran out in front of the bus and was killed- cheery mum!!

Really not got a great signal so photos are hard to post but will try later on perhaps.

Lorna.

Port Ellen - Day 3

Blogging this from the Cyber Bistro in Port Ellen, this is about the only place in the town which is open. Port Ellen is a tiny fishing town at the far side of the Island, about 20 miles from Port Charlotte where we stayed last night. Nice drive across the Island this morning, passed the tiny airport and peat moors. For being so small Islay has 8 Distilleries and touring these seems to be the main reason for visiting the island!

Photos from Islay

Here's some photos taken at the Port Mor site in Islay. Our view is amazing and the site is brand new!

Day 2- Islay

I wrote a huge blog entry this morning in Tarbet but the connection was flakey and somehow I lost it all :-(

We're now on Islay staying at the gorgeous Port Mor centre in Port Charlotte, our pitch is right on the edge of the ocean with lovely views across to Bowmore on the opposite side of the island.

Plenty of laughs being had and last night in Port Ban was fine except that our pitch was pretty sloped and we kept feeling that we were going to fall out of bed!

Going to take some pics now, will try and post them too.
